Abstract
Lux Spomenik is a series of works focused on the historical monuments of Yugoslavia to share their history and meaning through re-created illustrations of the monuments. Every work was created through a collaborative process in which pictures were collected from other sources and then transformed into finished pieces. The artworks created in Lux Spomenik are intended to spread the awareness of these monuments, educate more people of the meaning and purpose of these monuments, while providing reliable resources for anyone who is interested in learning Yugoslavia’s culture and heritage. “Lux” is the SI unit or measuring unit for measuring illuminance. “Spomenik” is the Serbo-Croatian/Slovenian word for “monument.” The idea is presenting an illuminance of hope behind these monuments, which carried people’s pain, struggles, and sufferings during World War II in Yugoslavia. Amid the horrific past memories of people, there is hope in stored in these monuments to anchor the survivor’s souls to hope for a bright and optimistic future.
